48 BancNet members offer cash withdrawal via non-ATM devices

In many remote areas in the country where ATMs are scarce or non-existent, 48 BancNet-member financial institutions enable their customers to withdraw cash through non-ATM devices (NAD) located at business establishments like grocery stores, sari-sari stores, and pawn shops. Called NAD Cash Out, the service allows a customer to access his bank account or e-wallet through non-ATM devices like point-of-sale (POS) terminals. He inserts his card, inputs the amount he wants to withdraw and his PIN, and the store’s cashier dispenses the cash. He can also check his account balance through the device which is small enough to fit on cashiers’ or tellers’ counters.

The service was introduced in June 2015 as POS Cash Out. Today, there are over 14,000 NAD Cash Out devices in the BancNet network, located at a wide range of partner business establishments nationwide, mostly in the countryside. NAD Cash Out spares customers the hassle and expense of traveling several kilometers to the nearest town or city where ATMs are usually located. BancNet members continue to partner with more business establishments and deploy additional non-ATM devices to serve more customers in outlying areas, in support of the Bangko Sentral’s goal of financial inclusion for more Filipinos.

In 2023, NAD Cash Out registered 22.35 million transactions—more than double, or 111%, the 10.6 million transactions in 2022, while the total value of Php88.82 billion was 85.82% higher than the Php47.8 billion in 2022. These transactions included cash withdrawals by beneficiaries of the government’s 4P’s program and other cash assistance initiatives for the underprivileged or people in crisis.

During the first half of 2024, Php40 billion were withdrawn from NADs in over 9 million transactions.
