BancNet, the country’s largest electronic banking consortium, recently marked its 22nd year in the business, celebrating a year of record growth highlighted by a number of industry “firsts”. These are:
The first wireless P.O.S terminal for cashless taxi fare payment in the country which was launched in Davao last July, a joint effort with Chinabank;
Total single-day switched transactions breached the 2-million mark for the first time last December ;
Its very first and very own direct-connect ATM was inaugurated last October.
BancNet was founded in 1990 with 8 member banks and 120 ATMs. Today, it boasts 98 members and affiliates, more than 6,500 ATMs and over 17,000 payment terminals nationwide. During its 22nd year, some 24 new members consisting of big and small banks and cooperatives, joined the consortium.
At the appreciation cocktails at Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City, BancNet president Robert Blas thanked clients, committee members, employees, and industry partners for helping make these achievements possible.
The consortium also recognized loyal employees who have rendered twenty years of service, namely Ms. Elmarie Reyes, Mr. Noel De Chavez, Mr. Gaudencio Carandang, and Mr. Patrick Fabie.
