BancNet donates school building for Marawi schoolchildren

BancNet recently turned over a new school building to the officials of the Nanapun Elementary School.

In response to the government’s call to help the besieged city of Marawi, the banking consortium partnered with the BDO Foundation and funded the construction of a new school building.

“BancNet believes that education is key to uplift our people out of poverty. The new school building will allow the displaced school children of Marawi to continue with their studies and give them the chance for a better future,” said Aris Zafra, Jr., CEO and EVP of BancNet.

The new structure has two storeys and four classrooms, each with its own comfort room. It is fully furnished, complete with school equipment and furniture.

“Words cannot express our deep gratitude for this gift from BancNet and BDO Foundation,” said Ms. Noronisa Dipatuan, principal of Nanapun Elementary School. “These new classrooms will inspire our students to want to go to school every day,” she added.

The city was ravaged during the Marawi Seige. According to DepEd, a total of 132 schools with over 22,000 students and almost 3,000 teachers were affected by the conflict. Ms. Anna Unte, DepEd Assistant Schools Division Superintendent said the new school building stands as a symbol of hope for the children of Marawi.

The turnover ceremony was led by the representatives of BancNet and the BDO Foundation, and witnessed by DepEd Schools Division officials and Marawi City councilor Hon. Aleem Nassif Marangit.

BancNet is the country’s sole electronic banking consortium. It has 120 member banks, affiliate switch networks, and electronic money issuers with a network of over 20,000 ATMs nationwide.
