BancNet recently launched an added security feature on the transactional pages of its Web site www.bancnetonline.com. It is a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificate from Verisign that guarantees that BancNet Online is a legitimate site that can be trusted. The SSL certificate appears on the address bar as the BancNet name in green beside the existing padlock icon which is another indication of a secure Web site. The green BancNet, Inc. (PH) is an ATM cardholder’s assurance that he is transacting on a genuine, legitimate Web site.
U.S.-based Verisign is the world’s trusted leader in Internet security and authenticity certificate authority.
BancNet Online’s application was developed with security in mind. On top of this, it is fortified by multi-layer security features that include a firewall, intrusion prevention system, and three-level data encryption.
To regularly check on its continuous security, BancNet Online is subjected to periodic external Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Tests. The last test report was released by Laggui and Associates last November which certified that BancNet Online is “robust and secure” particularly its authentication controls. The certification further states that “BancNet Online rejected all known types of phishing attacks, parameter tampering and database injection methods.”
Laggui and Associates is a reputable and reliable provider of information security testing services recognized by the banking and IT industries.
BancNet Online users are further assured by an anti-phishing and -pharming solution from FraudWatch International that scans the Internet for any fake websites and automatically shoots them down. This is the same solution currently implemented by major banks for their own Internet banking sites to provide added security assurance for online banking users.
Phishing and pharming are fraudulent ways of obtaining cardholder data by links or redirection to fake Web sites in order to make unauthorized transactions.
