BancNet, the country’s largest electronic banking consortium announced the election of its directors and officers for 2014-2015.
At its organizational meting last Friday, the board of directors of BancNet elected Manuel C. Tagaza and Daniel U. Yu as new chairman and vice chairman, respectively, and re-elected Robert P. Blas as president, Ismael R. Sandig as treasurer, Agnes H. Maranan as corporate secretary, and Elmarie S. Reyes as assistant corporate secretary.
At the annual stockholders’ meeting on the same day, BancNet shareholders elected the members of its board of directors for the term 2014-2015. These are: Roberto P. Blas (Citibank), Simon Javier A. Calasanz (HSBC), George P. Castro (Philtrust), Ricardo R. Chua (China Bank), Jovencio DB. Hernandez (PNB), Ma. Teresa M. Jesudason (DBP), Victor Q. Lim (PBCom), Alan David C. Matutina (Equicom Savings Bank), Dennis I. Paredes (Robinsons Bank), Mark Anthony B. Perez (Metrobank), Ismael R. Sandig (RCBC), Gerardo Susmerano (East West Bank), Manuel C. Tagaza (BPI), Marilyn M. Tiongson (Land Bank), and Daniel U. Yu (Security Bank).
The following members of the Advisory Board were also elected: Carmelita R. Araneta (Bank of Commerce), Abigail M. Del Rosario (Standard Chartered Bank), Joseph B. Estavillo (CTBC Bank), Jesus Vicente O. Garcia (Veterans Bank), Norman Martin C. Reyes (UCPB), Wilfredo E. Rodriguez, Jr. (Asia United Bank), and Alfredo S. Vitangcol, Jr. (Sterling Bank)
Tagaza is senior vice president and head of the Electronic Channels Group at the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) in which capacity he is responsible for the strategic positioning of all non-branch banking channels as the bank’s engine of growth. Prior to this assignment, he was the bank’s Chief Information Officer for 8 years. Tagaza brings to the helm of BancNet 29 years of solid experience in technology management and academic training in industrial engineering.
Yu is senior vice president at Security Bank where he is the Chief Information Officer and Head of Transaction Banking. He is responsible for the management of the bank’s electronic channels, including ATMs. Yu has been the chairman of BancNet’s Technical Committee for the past four years and will head the committee again this year.
Blas is vice president and Country Technology Head at Citibank. He has represented the bank in BancNet’s board of directors since 2001, was with the Technical Committee from 1991 to 2010, and served as the committee’s chairman for over a decade. This is his fourth term as BancNet president.
BancNet is a consortium of 116 member banks, affiliate switch networks, and electronic money issuer with a network of over 13,000 ATMs and about 35,000 payment terminals (POS) nationwide.
